On Tuesday (November 5, 2024) in Karachi city of Pakistan, a local security guard opened fire on two Chinese citizens after a fight, injuring them. Police gave this information. The incident took place at a police station in the Industrial Trading Estate area of Karachi in Sindh province.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Azhar Mahesar said that they are investigating the incident to find out why the security guard opened fire on the Chinese nationals. He said, ‘The security guard opened fire after an argument, injuring two Chinese citizens. The security guard has been arrested.’
Mahesar said that both have been admitted to the hospital. The condition of one of the injured is said to be serious. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry later confirmed that two Chinese nationals were injured in the incident, the injured were immediately admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment.
The ministry said in a statement, ‘We express our condolences to the families of the injured and pray for their speedy recovery.’ The statement said that the matter is being investigated and Pakistan is determined to take action against the person responsible.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry is in constant touch with the Home Ministry and the Chinese Embassy located in Islamabad. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar had directed officials to arrest the security guard involved in the incident. According to a statement from the Sindh provincial home department, Lanjar has sought details regarding the incident from the Deputy Inspector General of Police South.
The Home Minister said that companies providing security to Chinese individuals and foreigners should be inspected and its report should be sent for review. Lanjar said that the physical and mental health of the guards deployed for security must be checked. He said that only fully trained and healthy security guards should be deployed. According to the statement, he also ordered to take action against unregistered and illegal security companies.
